BX Ranch – Thriving During The Cariboo Gold Rush Era Francis Jones Barnard purchased 6,300 acres (2,550 ha) from the crown in 1864 to fatten cattle and raise express ponies used on his stage coach runs from the Valley to the Cariboo. The BX Ranch housed Barnard’s Express (with the BX brand); the largest freighting company in B.C. BX Creek supplied water for the wintering horses. BX Ranch was sold in 1906 and subdivided into small orchard lots. This started a subdivision frenzy. From 1906 to 1914 a colossal 29 mile (50 km) canal surrounding Vernon was built to irrigate these lots - the Grey Canal.
North and South BX are large rural neighbourhoods to the north and east of the City of Vernon. It is mainly a rural area which is known for being only minutes from town plus only 15 to 20 minutes to Silver Star Mountain resort.
BX Real Estate Info:
The BX is the location of much of the ALR land in Vernon.
Both areas of BX area are lovely, rural neighborhood with a mixture of single family homes on larger-than-city lots, plus a large variety of small acreages and hobby farms.
